This also happens to me, and when it does, I have to restart thunderbird
before I can send a new message.  So in some sense, when it happens, it
is reproducible.  It happens most reliably when I hit ctl + m and hold
control while the window is popping up.  Then it gets stuck, and I
basically have to restart Thunderbird.  It's *extremely* annoying, and
happens to me every day now.
