I'm running Intrepid as well. There IS no /etc/adobe directory on the system, as you correctly noted.
I forgot to write that down. Sorry:


sudo mkdir /etc/adobe
sudo vi /etc/adobe/mms.cfg

I stuck this line into that file, then restarted Firefox:

WindowlessDisable=true
