hi,

i don't know where to exactly put his bug, so please move it to the
right package section.

problem: if not using the nvidia restricted gfx drivers, firefox 3 beta
5 (beta 4 has been same issue) does not function properly:

1) performance is terrible - even scrolling a simple text-only page or changing to a different tab is sluggish or delayed
2) firefox causes high cpu load during these kind of actions - up to 100% on a single core - with a 3GHz cpu, that is! the overall system is slowing down (moving windows, opening folders, ...).
3) images (jpg, gif, etc.) are not or only partly shown, instead, a black area appears. if the image is a thumbnail linked to a larger size image, opening the large size image full scale finally shows the actual image.

all these effects vanish if nvidia restrited drivers are enabled by
enabling the destops fanciness under system->prefs->appearance.

i'm running ubuntu hardy testing. my system specs are

intel c2d e8500
gigabyte x38-ds5, bios f5
nvidia geforce 8800gtx
2x1 gb patriot ddr2 800
sound blaster xfi
seagate st3250410as

** Affects: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
