Obviously the people at mozilla decided to fix this in Thunderbird 3 in
a way that can be configured via about:config (see comment #58). That
would be the right thing to do, I think.

I do not know why the Ubuntu maintainers decided to "fix" this on their
own if it's not fixed in the upstream release, but I would like to see
this fix either removed or made configurable via about:config.

Unil then, I will probably try to build my own pckages with this patch
removed.
