Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: firefox-3.0
With Firefox 3.0~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu1, on a recent version of Hardy
(daily from a couple of days ago, most updates applied since):
Import of bookmarks (and presumably any other files) fails silently when the selected file is on a network share.
To reproduce:
Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Import... -> From File -> Next
Select a remote location in the Open File dialog; the following appears in ~/.xsession-errors:
** (firefox:17006): WARNING **: Operation not supported by backend
Click Open - the dialog box closes as expected, but nothing happens.
Expected outcome: bookmarks are imported, or at least a message is
provided indicating that Firefox can't open files from a network share.
NB: The share is of course not mounted, however it is accessible to
Nautilus; going to Places -> <sharename> on <servername> works just
fine. This is a Samba share, if it makes any difference.
