[Bug 145639] why does firefox-bin have PPID =1? Is this a bug?

Public bug reported:

I notice that whenever I launch firefox from the gnome tool bar that it has a parent process of 1.
Is this normal? It seems a lot of processes have PPID=1 and are owned by me.
