Have similar problem with ATI R7000 videocard using gnome as my windows
manager.  In my case, it would seem that Gutsy Kernel / video driver,
not firefox is the problem.  I feel that 7.10 should be considered a
Beta release.  Most computer professionals would check a new Windows
release for a month or two (maybe a year) before installing it on
customer sites where stability is needed.  We have been priviledged with
very stable releases up to now.

Besides system lockups, I also get text corruption and text fields being
obscured diagonally

Just waiting for the experts to spot and fix the errors
