I have this exact same problem.  I'm running gutsy on 64-bit as well.
It happened after the recent update as the original poster stated.
Here's the error when launched with safe-mode:

footer at kubuntu64:/var/crash$ firefox -safe-mode
ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libartsdsp.so.0' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.
ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libartsc.so.0' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.
ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libartsdsp.so.0' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.
ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libartsc.so.0' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.

There are no crash files for firefox in /var/crash  I did the same thing
as the original poster as far as manually installing Flash with
nspluginwrapper before updating to Gutsy Gibbon.

Please let me know if you need any further information to help
troubleshoot.
