[Bug 150366] Harddisk corruption after opening large image in firefox

Public bug reported:

I wanted to view the full version of the image at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Wtc-photo.jpg (very large) and after
loading about 3/4th of it, my computer stalled and my harddisk started
to make a lot of noise. It also became unresponsive, and I tried several
keycombination like ctrl-alt-bckspace, ctrl-alt-del, ctrl-alt-f1 but
none worked. I then rebooted the computer and since then the partition
ubuntu is on is inaccessible. I can boot from it from grub, but then the
computer stalls almost directly after usplash is shown. I can't mount
the partition from another ubuntu instance. Fsck on it didn't work.
