Had the issue again today.  I logged in remotely and ran 'top'.  Xgl was
using 99% CPU.  I killed it and tried to restart X, then Xorg was using
99% cpu.  I couldn't get it to start working again anyway...  but I'm no
expert!

..so I rebooted it remotely.
