Having the same problem on Ubuntu Gutsy (upgraded from Feisty), running
Firefox 2.0.0.8, with esound-clients installed, Daniel Carrera's
solution, and after a reboot. Also tried changing FIREFOX_DSP in
/etc/firefox/firefoxrc to "none" and "esd", with no success. Using
optical (aka. S/PDIF, digital, or IEC958) output, which works, in
Rhythmbox, MPlayer, and others.
