[Bug 160700] thundebird freezes immediately upon start when there are new messages to download

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

Steps to reproduce:
1.) have a new mail sent to your mailbox (e.g. notified through mail-notification)
2.) launch thunderbird
3.) thunderbird main window shows up, downloads the messages, and freezes - no more reactions to mouse clicking or keypressing
4.) TB has to be killed by hand

I'll try to attach strace and console output.
