[Bug 116907] Too many installed fonts causes firefox + open office word app to not display correct font

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I have installed over 6700 different types of font into
/usr/share/fonts/downloadedfonts. I need this amount of fonts because I
like to experiment. Anyway when I have this large amount of fonts
installed when I fire up firefox my font type is not the default serif
font that I have configured Ubuntu to use. Firefox uses (I believe) a
font from my downloadedfonts folder. This same problem also occurs when
viewing a document in openoffice word processor. However if I decide to
move that directory /usr/share/fonts/downloadedfonts into ~ the problem
is resolved. However I don't want to perform this work around as it
would be annoying.

Please don't reply with 'you do not need that amount of fonts'. Well I
would respond with no I probably don't but I believe so passionately
about Ubuntu that I wanted to inform the wider community.

I could start by adding a 1000 fonts at a time, but I am more interested
in finding out the cause.

I look forward to your assistance.
