Thank you Markus Kohler for your report.

Can you check that  "network.protocol-handler.external.mailto" is set to
"true"; that is done by typing in firefox as url "about:config".

Also confirm at gconf-editor (if you use gnome) that /desktop/gnome/url-
handlers/mailto is configured rightly (e.g. the command points to some
mail client -- by default it should be "evolution %s" and the enabled
field is checked). And make sure that you have installed the mail
client.
