FWIW, My wife was having the same problem.  I updated Firefox and it is
now fixed.

Another aspect of the problem was that the "saved passwords" list
(Edit->Preferences->Privacy->Passwords) was *BLANK*! But when I updated
the browser, the saved passwords list was restored.

Notes:

Updated browser details:
Broken: 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.10-0ubuntu0.6.06.2
Fixed: 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.11-0ubuntu0.6.06.1 (I think the minor version stuff is right, but the ".11" part is definitely right)
