I'd agree that this bug perhaps does not belong to firefox, but I
definitely take issue with your comment that web-mail systems aren't
"real" email clients.  While they may not be stand-alone applications,
they certainly are used by *real* people to send *real* emails -- and
launching the wrong application to handle mailto: URLs is definitely
incorrect.  That said, perhaps it does not belong to firefox but rather
to whatever provides the system preference "preferred application" for
email.  If a wrapper script were written which would launch firefox with
an appropriate URL and that were set as the preferred app, I think that
would do the trick.
