I'm on Edgy. I downloaded vanilla Firefox "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux
i686; en-GB; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3" and untarred in
/usr/local/firefox and this shows the same problem.
I think this is some sort of low level problem as this also affects
other browsers eg lynx as per the evidence which I posted.
