[Bug 94165] firefox does not manage to open .zips or self-extracting zips

I was testing the feisty beta
daily-live/20070320.1/feisty-desktop-i386.iso as livecd.  To test
whether the system could open .zip files, I did the following:

* Google searched for `zip download'.
* Picked a page at random that looked plausible.
* Selected a file for download.

Firefox offered to open the file in Archive Manager, of which I
approved so I said `yes'.  The download manager opened and showed the
file downloading.  However when it had completed, the file was not to
be found in Desktop and Archive Manager had not opened.  Clicking
`open' in the download manager had no effect.

I can reproduce this effect with

which contains a link to
 http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/puzzles/puzzles.zip
