[Bug 89474] thunderbird: interval checking doesn't work for Unix mail account

I have created a "Unix movemail" account in Thunderbird, to get emails sent locally by cron jobs, etc. 
I have "Check for new messages on startup" and "Check for new messages every [1] minutes" turned on in the account settings, but I never see any new messages unless I go to the inbox of that account and click the "Get Mail" button.

The package version is 1.5.0.9-0ubuntu0.6.10
