I was able to generate debug information with a VMWare install I have, it resulted in bug report:

I am a little concerned that this has happened in the new install, ok it
is Gutsy, and TBird V2; I did it just to be able to send emails, so it
seems that I was able to replicate the symptoms without meaning too.

I have attached the _usr_lib_mozilla-thunderbird_mozilla-thunderbird-
bin.1000.crash file, 20 Mb, I think I should archive it.  Ok That is now
14 mb
