I managed to try this on a single processor Linux installation (albeit
running on a  VMWARE instance) and got the same problem.

Looking at the content of the page that caused the problem it appeared
that there were multiple iframes within the page, with javascript that
registered onload events using window.onload. When the javascript code
was changed to load on the parent load completion the problem
disappeared.
