freeplane-1.3.15-3 broken in xenial?

hello masters,

I am the freeplane package author in Debian, and freeplane-1.3.15-3
works fine in my unstable VM. However a user reported that
freeplane complains with
  ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.commons.lang.StringUtils
on startup [1].

I cannot explain this at all: freeplane depends on libcommons-lang-java,
and at runtime /usr/share/java/commons-lang.jar is referenced,
and this part of libcommons-lang-java [3].

I guess that the package works in principle and that I need to work with
the author of [1] to find out what caused this on his system?
