Package update process

Hello all,

I have been following the motu mailing list for a while and started
practicing with packaging.

After doing some example packages I started on a package really in
need of an upgrade,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/debian/+source/meld/+bug/417369 .

After some puzzling and fixing I ended up with a truly upgraded
package :) hurray!

Now the MOTU wiki's is somewhat confusing to me (or maybe I am not
reading correct :) ) about the next steps. Which steps do I have to
take to get the upgraded package in the repositories?

    * Should I assign the bug to myself or not?
    * Which files exactly do I upload?
    * Where do I upload them, in Launchpad or somewhere else?

I would be grateful if someone can point it out to me.
