Use of dh_desktop

Hello everyone,

when uploading fixes concerning .desktop files, sometimes it is told to
call dh_desktop in debian/rules file, and [1] seems to agree with this.

If I remember correctly, dh_desktop calls update-desktop-database, which
 is not needed if .desktop files do not provide any MIME informations. A
bug has been filed about it, see [2].

Could you please clarify about this?
