Hello MOTUers!
Thursday the 8th at 16:00 UTC will start the Feisty Upstream Version
Freeze (UVF) for Universe/Multiverse. [0]
What is UVF?
"The point at which we cease accepting new upstream versions of
packages, whether they are sourced from Debian or not." [1]
What does UVF apply to?
A current example is eclipse. The current Feisty version is
3.2.1-2ubuntu1. Debian has 3.2.1-4 so there is no new upstream
version, just a new Debian revision so it'd be ok to upload
3.2.1-4ubuntu1. However, uploading 3.2.2-1ubuntu1 would not be
allowed without a UVF exception.
How do I get an UVF exception?
Look at the bottom of the freeze exception process wiki page [2].
Basic overview is:
1. File a bug that describes why the UVF exception is needed. We
are looking for bug fix releases not feature addition releases. If
the new upstream version fixes bugs link to bug reports.
2. Attach the diffstat, relevant Changelog (upstream) entries, and
build logs (please build and test the new version before filing the bug)
3. Assign the bug to the motu-uvf team
4. Once 2 motu-uvf members have approved the UVF exception the bug
will be marked as "Confirmed" and you can upload. ( generally it's a
good idea to mention the UVF exception bug number in the changelog if
you are merging)
Get new upstreams in while you can. Also check out ajmitch's missing
RC fixes list [3] as it might help find some needed UVF exceptions.
