Are there any mentors available?

You could possibly set up a form on Launchpad or ubuntu.org.  It can
have fields such as "Mark all languages in which you are sufficient," or
stuff like that.  You could check to see if the user really is from the
mailing list just so that we make sure they're not freeloaders. :
