No, of course not. I suppose that I was a bit unclear there. I mean to
say, that as opposed to blindly emailing people I'd rather ask in a
public forum such as this if there are any specific packages that it
would be helpful for me to work on.

I understand the technical aspect of merging, what I find intimidating
as a newer contributer is trying to pick a package that actually needs
help from a list of hundreds of packages that need to be merged.

I figured it couldn't hurt to ask here first.
