Public bug reported:

I have recently been getting video files with "#" in the name, like
"Video #1.mp4" with an accompanying srt file "Video #1.srt". I can open
the srt file fine, but when it tries loading the video file, I get an
error in a dialog box:

Could not play the file /home/user/Video .

Resource not found.

[OK] [Open another file]

If I attempt to "Open another file" it also cannot have a "#" in it or
it will also fail.

This is on Trusty and the package is gnome-subtitles, 1.2-4ubuntu2.

** Affects: gnome-subtitles (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
