I will make an Ubuntu VM so I can reproduce this issue. The last time I
have tested MessaginMenu was when implemented that support like 2 years
ago (or more).

Status in “smuxi” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  In IRC highlighted notifications, the Messaging Menu is updated from
  gnome frontend of smuxi. At the first notification, the menu gets one
  item with correct info. At second, there are two identical
  notifications with the second's details.

  At nineth, there are nine identical lines with the nineth's  details
  in the Messaging Menu.
