Title:
  monodevelop can't produce release configuration

Status in “monodevelop” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: monodevelop

  Ubuntu 8.04 package monodevelop

the monodevelop IDE that is in the repos of 8.04 cannot produce a
release configuration. Open the IDE and create a new project. Then
right click on project and select Options. The options dialog box is
extremely flaky. In the dialog click on Configurations. There are 2
listed (Debug and Release with Debug set as active). Try to right
click on Release to set it as active and instead the only options
available are "Remove" and "Rename". This means the IDE cannopt
produce a release version of your project. In short this makes the
IDE little more than a toy, and completely worthless for the purposes
of development. I now have to do my dev under Windows using VS which
  makes me very sad.
