not sure if this is a gconf problem or with sysyinfo directly.

running sysinfo from terminal reveals this:

GConf.NoSuchKeyException: Key '/apps/sysinfo/initial_animation' not found in GConf
  at GConf.Client.Get (System.String key) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 
  at Sysinfo.Sysinfo.UpdateFromGConf () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 

occiured on Ubuntu 12.02 with followin sysinfo version:

Installed: 0.7-8
Candidate: 0.7-8
Version table:  *** 0.7-8 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
