Same problem here using a Sony Walkman NWZ A818.  The device is recognized correctly in mtp mode by the system and it works fine with Rhythmbox, but simply doesn't appear in Banshee 2.2 from Ubuntu 11.10 (and previous versions of course).

  That's it, instead with rhythmbox is working fine I don't know why
