Could you try playing the same audio and video files with Totem, and
with mplayer?
If the audio is not distorted in Totem, then it's a Banshee issue. If the audio
is distorted in Totem but not mplayer, then it's a gstreamer issue. Otherwise,
it's probably either the file, pulseaudio, or something lower level than that.

The Audio on Banshee media player is very distorted. Video when played
streaming over the Internet is the same with the audio. I will upgrade
to new speakers, but can you suggest another media player?
