I'm also encountering this problem. I'm not sure what else I can say;
the extension is enabled, and I am putting files into the main music
library directory. Banshee just never seems to check for new files, even
after restarting.

How does "library watching" work, anyway? Is it meant to be realtime, or
does it check the directory for changes every X minutes?

I am on version 2.2.1-1ubuntu2~hyper1+oneiric

  Library watcher doesnot add new files automatically

Status in “banshee” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: banshee

  I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and Banshee 1.6.1 The problem with this
  release (and all past releases) on my machine is that the Music Library does
  not get updated when I add files to my music folder. The folder in question is
  not on the root or home partition but on a separate fat32 partition (which i've properly set as the source). I don't
  think that should be a problem for the player but it doesn't update the
  Library. Not even upon restarting. I have to manually add the files which is
  very frustrating. If some one could help with this it would be much
  appreciated.
