Probably this issue is a duplicate of bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-sound/+bug/730925,
and it's fixed in the latest release of indicator-sound.

  Binary package hint: banshee

  When I open Banshee from the Sound Menu, it turns off the volume
  automatically. The volume slider goes to minimum and I need to
  increase it manually.
