[ubuntu-mono] [Bug 798161] [NEW] Banshee on ubuntu 11.04 won't play until you've deleted config and re-imported music collection, then it lags horribly between songs, reporting that it is "buffering".. and you miss the first bit of the song

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

I used Rhythmbox up until upgrading to 11.04.

Banshee is a nicer interface IMHO so I'm determined to get this sorted.

Upon importing my music collection, which is stored on my media server,
I was able to play my music but there was a terrible lag when going from
one song to the next and I miss the first bit of every next song.

Restarting the computer and loading up Banshee once again, this time
from terminal, nothing will play and I am confronted with "Gstreamer
Resource Error: OpenRead" ... I've also got "Gstreamer Resource Error:
OpenWrite" errors on subsequent tries.

This error message prints 4 times every time I click a new song to play.
I thought it may have been a permissions thing, but after changing all
the permissions I find out it's still occurring.

The only way I've managed to get around it is by deleting the Banshee.DB
config and re-importing my media.. which takes forever! There needs to
be an update to resolve this as I've heard a few people are having the
same issue.

But thats just one part of the problem.. the lagging between songs is
very frustrating... next time I reboot I will run a --debug and post the
output for you..

Strangely running the command:

lsb_release -rd

reports I'm using 9.10 yet i've upgraded from 10.04 to 11.04

running the command:

apt-cache policy banshee

reports ...
apt-cache policy banshee
banshee:

  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 1.5.1-1
  Version table:
     1.5.1-1 0
        500 http://nz.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/universe Packages

...Again with the karmic release... is this where the problem lies
perhaps?

** Affects: banshee (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
