Confirmed, even in Oneiric - but I can't be sure this is a bug, not a
feature. Seems quite clever to only close to indicator when the user
wouldn't want it to close normally. Can you cite some situations where
the current behavior might be undesirable?

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: banshee

  if i close Banshee in Natty it really closes instead of closing to the
  sound-indicator which should be the normal behaviour...
