For a casualty do you use to navigate a proxy or something? any way, I
tried to reproduce this issue here with 1.9.3 release from daily ppa and
works fine for me (Ubuntu Maverick).

  Binary package hint: banshee

  I'm using Banshee 1.8.1 from Ubuntu Maverick repos; when I subscribe
  to  http://academicearth.org/courses/death/audio.rss nothing happens:
  the podcast doesn't appears anywhere nor I get an error message.
