Since i'm affected by this problem too, I'm going to attache the output
of that command.
The "ps -C banshee-1 -o rsz=,command=" command gave me no output.
I've noticed that, when opening, banshee freezes the system for a while
when the log says:
[2 Debug 12:25:12.373] ArtworkLookup Run ()
[2 Debug 12:25:29.968] ArtworkLookup stopped
[1 Debug 12:26:50.908] Creating Pango.Layout, configuring Cairo.Context
and the memory usage is just reached 170MB.
Then it keeps loading until it gets 230MB (or more after I start playing music)
I've got an 8.500 files library.

Title:
Banshee uses far too much RAM
Status in “banshee” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Binary package hint: banshee
I have a large collection of music ( > 60.000 Files). If I use Banshee, my RAM (about 550 MB of 4 GB used normally) boosts up until it is completely filled, then it tries to fill all my swap space and my system begins to hang and is not usable any more. I have to kill it then. Think about: Banshee uses more than 3 GB of RAM here! This is just a music player and not an operating system!
This problem exists in all versions of Banshee (since the very first version) and did not change yet. I like Banshee a lot, but I can not use it with my music collection. (I wonder for what purpose this program is intended if not for managing and playing large collections...?) You really should find a way how to handle large collections without overloading RAM - especially when using it as a default player in Ubuntu. Rhythmbox does have a similar problem, but system is still usable with it and a bit of RAM is still available.
