Bug description:
Binary package hint: banshee
Recently when I imported CDs, Banshee could not retrieve album metainformation. I don't know the reason for that, but this bug is about a problematic consequence rather than this specific problem. (Even if Banshee was bug-free, you would end up with unidentified albums e.g. if you do an import when you are not connected to the Internet.)
When the metainformation is not available, the album gets saved (by default) into Unknown Artist/Unknown Album/01 Track 1.ogg etc.
Now if I import another album and its metainformation cannot be retrieved either, the existing files will be overwritten without warning.
What's worse, if I noticed and added the track information etc for the first imported album by hand, the database entries will now point to entirely the wrong songs.
The solution to this would appear to be simple: import unknown albums to unique temporary names.
Of course, down the road, it would be nice if "Edit Track Information" would also update the file names of the underlying files on disk.
