Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: banshee
Since I updated to Maverick beta, Banshee has become totally unusable.
It uses all available RAM and CPU to try to scan all my external hard drives for music (and video) files. Even without playback Banshee's CPU use is 60-120% and playback is intolerable, because it is intermittent. During playback its CPU use is always 120-170% and it uses over 5 GB of memory!
Disabling the Library Watcher -extension does not change Banshee's
behaviour. However, if I remove all external hard drives, Banshee plays
nicely with CPU use of 6-8% and RAM 50-60 MB. But if I remount even one
drive, CPU and RAM usage increase rapidly making the computer drowsy.
** Affects: banshee (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
