You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

Status in “docky” package in Ubuntu: New

Bug description:
Binary package hint: docky

PROBLEM

On both startup and shutdown, Docky displays a notification area message which says something to the effect of "Compositing must be enabled. Please re-enable compositing and restart Docky."

After displaying this message, Docky either starts normally or is killed as part of the shutdown process.

INFERENCE

Docky is displaying these messages because it is being loaded before Compiz, and being killed afterwards.

HOW TO REPRODUCE

1. Arrange to make Docky start before Compiz or be killed afterwards. For reference, I am using a 2.2 GHz Celeron and have a good handful of services other than Docky which run on startup (Do, Tomboy, Deja Dup).

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

Docky will not display, on a regular basis, bewildering error messages to technically nonproficient users who don't even know what "compositing" is.
