It is true that still most programs store there data outside of the XDG
hierarchy but this is changing, bugs have been filed against almost all
GNOME packages and many have been fixed already
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=523057), in addition to the
applications you mentioned, other "standard" applications like Empathy,
gnome-do, pitivi, tracker, vlc, etc. already use .local/share.

Why are notes not located in .tomboy

You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

Status in “tomboy” package in Ubuntu: Invalid

Bug description:
Binary package hint: tomboy

I recently did a fresh install and *thought* that I had made a backup of my notes, as I copied .tomboy which contained .note files. As I found out on my new install, notes are apparently kept at .local/share/tomboy, which means I have now lost 1.5 years worth of notes.

Needless to say, I'm less than happy, so I was wondering whether it would be a great idea to store all notes in .tomboy. I think that's a great idea, what do you think?
