If you remember what time frame it was in, perhaps you could poke around in the
logfiles in /var/log/apt/ and see which packages were changed during that time?

Binary package hint: banshee

I've tried banshee, rhythmbox, movie player.  so possibly a gstreamer issue?  none of the seek bars in these applications work or let me grab the bar and slide it when something is playing.
