I know this bug is just for one file but on normal computers like a dual
core with 2 gig RAM an import of 15.000 photos is not possible because
all available RAM and swap is eaten by the import. I think this is not
necessary because during the first step of the import photos are already
imported to the photo folder and added to the database. After this the
program starts to ask which photos should be imported.

A better process would be just to load the thumbs but not to copy the
photos and not to add it to the database. This would accelerate the
import.

Status in “f-spot” package in Ubuntu: New

Bug description:
Binary package hint: f-spot

When importing F-spot chokes on one file and then starts using some 1.5Gb of memory making the computer unresponsive.

I re-saved the image in question in GIMP (jpg, 100% quality; it really is the same image but just re-saved) and it imported without problems.
