I am using Banshee 1.7.3 (daily-build) with Lucid (up-to-date).

After your posting i enabled  /apps/nautilus/preferences/media_automount_open and also /apps/nautilus/preferences/media_automount. 
It all works fine now  Someone has fixed it.

I was able to synchronize my iPod Nano 2G while Lucid was in Alpha stage. However, testing the latest beta, the device no longer shows up in the left-side pane.
