This is related to bug #407621 and therefore intended.

One could argue about showing the 'note' icon though because for me
notes feel more like files, and other files still show icons in the
menus as in Places > Recent Documents. But there's only one kind of note
symbol for all notes, so why show it at all?

In conclusion I'd suggest marking it as a duplicate of bug #407621.
