Thanks for reporting this. There have been some upstream fixes to the
1.4 series that have made this better. Could you possibly try the PPA
version? It's available here: https://launchpad.net/~banshee-
team/+archive/ppa. 1.4 is also available in Jaunty, if you'd rather test
there.

For reference, there's still an open bug here, but I'm not sure whether
it will cover what you're seeing or not:
