Am testing the patch now...

If my 2½ year old cries today, I'll know it didn't work.  :-)  (I was
playing his favorite song last night when it crashed and he said "FIX IT
DADDY"... there's motivation, I suppose, lol)

Anyway, so far, so good.  There is a package in the PPA built with the
patch:
