** Summary changed:
- Gnome-Do wakes up the processor too much
+ Mono programs produce frequent CPU wakeups (in futex_wait)
** Description changed:
- I love Do, but I think it's waking up the processor too often. That's
- bad because more wakeups = increasing power consumption = global warming
- = reduced battery life on laptops.
+ Bug initially from GNOME Do, but I've been meaning to file something
+ like this for some time. All mono apps will show up in powertop with
+ lines like:
- I'm using Do 0.6.0 (on Intrepid) and PowerTop 1.10 tells me there's
- always 10-20 gnome-do wakeups every second. Only Firefox has a
- consistently higher number of wakeups, and that's running a bunch of
- tabs/extensions.
+ 11.1% ( 21.4) gnome-do : futex_wait (hrtimer_wakeup)
- E.g. 11.1% ( 21.4) gnome-do : futex_wait (hrtimer_wakeup)
-
- Can the frequency of this futex wait be reduced? Or removed all together
- somehow?
+ Linked to the upstream bug report.
